Online Herb Plants Win RHS & Gardener’s World Golds

Last year oh my goodness, Kitchen Garden Plant Centre truly made its mark in the edible plant scene winning not only our first ever prestigious RHS Gold Medal, but we won 4 of them, yes 4 RHS Gold Medals in 2022 for our potted herbs! We were excited to have been invited to display at all the main shows in 2022 in Malvern, Chelsea, Hampton Court and Tatton Park and are heading back again in 2023 to make our stay.

Gardeners World Live, again a further Gold Medal for us for our herb display. We are not entirely sure how we all survived that hot weather in July, our lawn had turned brown and crispy and there we were setting up some of our best ever kitchen garden plant display gardens in some of the hottest temperatures in recent years.

But I have to say what an experience Chelsea Flower Show 2022 was for us both and finally a childhood dream come true for Neil, propagating our herb plants and showing them off in all their glory for all to see. Our local herb queen Jekka Mc Vicar came and showed her support, holding up our medal with Neil.

We were thrilled with all of you who bought our potted herbs online from us through lockdown which is when we started selling our edible plants online.  We loved hearing how much you loved receiving herbs direct from our nursery, it was truly a heart warming experience.  As a result of Chelsea, herb plant sales boomed online with more and more people clicking shop herbs/ add to basket and having delivery of our quality peat and pesticide free herbs direct to more and more homes across the U.K.

Right now our Floral display herb plants are all making great progress and showing signs of making fabulous display herbs yet again.  We have been able to divide more and more of our show/stock plants and are gaining greater quantities of our newer herb ranges, which we brought to you over the last two years to shop herbs online, such as Horseradish- Armoracia rusticana and Ajuga reptans (one of our favourite display plants in 2022).

We have some exciting plans for 2023 and are enjoying watching our herbs such as French Tarragon – Artemisia dracunculus bud up much earlier this year than most and watching the cotyledons on our young seedlings raising their heads on our propagation bench.  We have started growing our herbs a little earlier this year using the weather as our growing compass as it warmed up to 7 degrees overnight.  7 degrees overnight in January much to our surprise!  The colder weather which has followed this week is helping to harden off our young herb seedlings ready for our climate. Yet again we are increasing our range of herbs and edible plants and are excitedly watching our new cultivars grow, some with bated breath wondering if they may make the mark for this years Chelsea Flower show display.
