Betony (Betonica officinalis) is a useful perennial plant for the pollinator garden, and is entirely edible. It has scalloped green leaves, with reddish purple flowers in Summer/ Early Autumn. Prefers moist well-drained soil and copes with heavy clay in sun or shade. Height 60cm. All parts are edible and makes a slightly spicy tea. Excellent for pollinators and particularly the solitary wool carder bee.
