Coriander leaves and seeds are used for salads, soups, Asian meals, pickles, chutneys. Also known as cilantro. Use leaves before flowering and seeds after flowering. If growing for its leaf prevent flowering to maintain leaf flavour. Roots can be cooked as a vegetable in curries. Medicinally used for essential oils in ointments for rheumatic joints. Good for digestion.
- Half hardy annual
- Height 60cm
- Grown for its leaves and its seed. To maintain leaf flavour and prolong foliage growth do not allow coriander to flower
- Full sun position sheltered, warm or sunny windowsill
- Fertile moist but well drained soil
- Remove flowers immediately to encourage fresh young leaves and maintain flavour. Collect seed at end of growing season.
